On the day of the tour, we'll meet at the Monument to Almeida Garrett, in front of Porto City Hall. From this central point in the city, we'll begin our food tour of Porto. Are you ready to try its tapas, explore its markets, and discover its famous wines? Let's go!
Once everyone is together, we'll start strolling through the charming streets of Porto towards a traditional tasco. Here, we'll dive into Portuguese culinary culture, treating our palates to a selection of petiscos, or Portuguese tapas, including the popular Bifana à Moda do Porto, a type of pork sandwich cooked with wine, garlic, and spices, and bolinhos de bacalhau.
After this first taste of Portuguese cuisine, we'll stroll to the Mercado do Bolhão, a true temple for foodies. We'll explore the stalls selling flowers, cheeses, cured meats, and fruits, learning about the importance of quality ingredients in local recipes. To make this visit even more special, we'll stop at a stall to sample a selection of typical preserves served on toast. You'll be licking your fingers!
With this delightful taste in our mouths, we'll head to the nearby town of Vila Nova de Gaia. We'll cross the Douro River via the Dom Luís I Bridge to reach a renowned Port winery, where we'll tell you all about the production of this iconic local wine.
To top it all off, we'll enjoy a tasting of three wines, toasting together and discovering through our senses why this wine is unique in the world.
3.5 hours later, we'll say our goodbyes outside the Vila Nova de Gaia winery, concluding the tour.
