Want to discover the oldest city in the Americas? On this day trip to Santo Domingo, you'll see the city's most iconic landmarks and try its traditional food.
Day Trip Details
After picking you up from your hotel at the designated time, we'll head west toward Santo Domingo. We'll arrive after a 1.5-hour drive and set off on a guided tour of the city's most important spots.
We'll start at Los Tres Ojos, a spectacular cave next to its famous freshwater lakes. Next, we'll admire the outside of the Columbus Lighthouse, where the Genoese navigator is said to be buried.
Our next stop is in front of the National Palace, one of the city's most iconic buildings.
Then, we'll head into Santo Domingo's Colonial Zone, where we'll first step inside the Alcázar de Colón, the admiral's former home. From there, we'll continue to the Cathedral of Santa María la Menor, the First Cathedral of the Americas. Did you know it's the oldest in the continent?
After visiting the cathedral, we'll stroll down Calle de las Damas, where you'll see the first stone house built in the New World, and head inside the National Pantheon, the resting place of key figures in the country's history. Then, we'll keep walking through Plaza de España to see its outdoor cafés.
We'll also stop by a souvenir shop to see pieces made with larimar. The Dominican Republic is home to the only mine in the world where this semiprecious stone can be found.
You'll have some free time to refuel with a delicious buffet lunch featuring traditional dishes like rice, meat stews, and beans. Once we've recharged, we'll walk to the Malecón to enjoy beautiful views of the Caribbean Sea. Finally, we'll take you back to your hotel, arriving 9 to 11.5 hours after pickup.
